Help lead the next chapter of MCEC Saturday School

The Muslim Community and Education Centre (MCEC), also known as Palmers Green Mosque, is seeking a committed and inspiring Saturday School Principal to lead the day-to-day running of our Saturday School.

Our Saturday School plays an important role in nurturing children with a strong foundation in Islamic Studies, Qur’an education, good character and belonging. We are looking for someone who can support both students and teachers, maintain high standards, and help create a safe, organised and positive learning environment every week.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about children’s Islamic education and has the leadership skills to guide a dedicated weekend school team.

About the role

The Saturday School Principal will be responsible for the leadership, management and smooth operation of the school. The role involves supporting teachers, monitoring student progress, communicating with parents, maintaining records, and working closely with the CEO and Trustees to develop the school further.

The role includes:

  • Leading the weekly running of Saturday School
  • Ensuring lessons start and finish on time
  • Supporting, supervising and motivating teachers and classroom assistants
  • Promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance, punctuality and discipline
  • Overseeing the Islamic Studies and Qur’an curriculum
  • Monitoring teaching standards and student progress
  • Coordinating assessments and examinations
  • Communicating effectively with parents about progress, attendance and behaviour
  • Organising parent meetings and supporting positive parent relationships
  • Maintaining accurate registers, reports, safeguarding records and school administration
  • Identifying opportunities to improve teaching, learning and student engagement
  • Supporting educational events, assemblies, competitions and end-of-year presentations

The successful candidate will be a calm, reliable and approachable leader who can make sound decisions, support staff positively, and help children feel encouraged and cared for.

We are looking for someone who has

  • Sound knowledge of Islamic Studies and Qur’an education
  • Experience teaching in an Islamic supplementary school or similar setting
  • Experience leading, supervising or supporting staff
  • Experience working with children and young people
  • Strong communication skills with parents, staff and students
  • Good organisational, IT and administrative skills
  • A clear commitment to safeguarding and child protection
  • Strong Islamic character, professionalism and a passion for children’s education

This role would suit someone who is dependable, warm, structured and motivated by helping young people learn and grow.

Contract details

Contract: Permanent, subject to successful probation
Hours: Saturdays, 8:00am to 1:00pm, plus 1 flexible hour during the week for a debrief and catch-up with the CEO, 6 hours per week in total
Location: Palmers Green Mosque, 30 Oakthorpe Road, London N13 5JL
Responsible to: CEO and Board of Trustees

The post holder may occasionally be required to attend parent meetings, teacher meetings, training sessions or school events outside normal Saturday hours with reasonable notice.
