The beginning of this month has seen a flurry of activity in the Greening up the Mosque project. Obviously during Ramadan you heard about the solar panels we have put up on the roof of the building.
But also as the Muslim Climate Action coalition kicked off at the House of Commons on Tuesday 8th September, we heard from the UK Energy Minister Lord Bourne and MCEC – Palmers Green Mosque was chosen to be the launch for the UK tour of the Green Torch. This will travel to various mosques throughout the country. Once the baton arrives, Imams commit to delivering a sermon enlightening people how they can join the fight against climate change and to help protect it. Islamic leaders are being encouraged to make Mosques more environmentally friendly by using solar energy, for example, and recycling.

On a similar note, we will be having a talk this Sunday 13th September from 3:30pm. Br Talat Shaikh will be discussing how we went about putting the panels in place together with the issues around project managing such endeavours, fundraising and building awareness and expertise.
Refreshments will of course be provided and if you’d like to attend please RSVP to Harfiyah Haleem ([email protected]) (0791941637)
