The Power of Morning and Evening Azkar

‘And remember your Lord much and exalt [Him with praise] in the evening and the morning.’ (Surah Al-Imran 3:41)

‘O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance. And exalt Him morning and afternoon.’ (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:41-42)

Azkar is the plural of zikr and refers to the beautiful act of remembering Allah (AWJ). The morning and evening Azkar are a collection of duas, and remembrances prescribed by the Prophet (SAW) that we are encouraged to recite every morning and evening.

Protection Through Azkar

Reciting the morning and evening Azkar is a powerful means of seeking Allah (AWJ’s) protection. No matter what precautions we take, nothing and no one can protect us except by the will of Allah (AWJ). Therefore, it is essential to place ourselves under His protection daily.

These Azkar are not only protection from the evils of the day and night but also serve as a shield against hardships, trials, and the whispers of Shaytan. The guidance of Allah (AWJ) is clear – turning to Him in remembrance is the way to find true peace and security.

Peace and Contentment Through Remembrance

Allah (AWJ) has promised that true peace is found in His remembrance. When we sincerely engage in Azkar, we strengthen our faith and renew our reliance upon Him.

‘Those who have believed and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah. Surely, in the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest.’ (Quran 13:28)

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) beautifully stated, Within the heart, there is a void that cannot be filled except with love for Allah, turning to Him, constantly remembering Him, and being sincere to Him.” This highlights how engaging in Azkar nourishes the soul, providing true spiritual well-being and emotional tranquillity that nothing else can offer.

The Wisdom of Morning and Evening Azkar

It’s not a coincidence that there are no Sunnah prayers prescribed immediately after the obligatory Fajr and Asr prayers. These times have been reserved for the remembrance of Allah (AWJ) and the recitation of morning and evening Azkar. This deliberate timing emphasises the importance of consistently performing these powerful acts of worship.

Closeness to Allah Through Azkar

Reciting Azkar allows us to gain closeness to Allah (AWJ). Those who frequently remember Allah (AWJ) develop a strong, unbreakable bond with Him. This closeness grants them guidance, strength, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

Morning and evening Azkar are not just words uttered by the tongue but powerful tools for protection, peace, and connection to Allah (AWJ). Through them, we gain Allah (AWJ’s) pleasure, mercy, and guidance.

May Allah grant us all the ability to consistently remember Him and perform our Azkar, Ameen.
